Over 200 law enforcement officers from throughout the region are attending a special four-day summit sponsored by Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District). The Texas School-Based Law Enforcement Summit is presented by the Institute for Criminal Justice Studies, a program of the Texas School Safety Center at Texas State University. The summit is tailored to the unique needs of school-based officers. Some of the topics being covered over the four days include: gang intervention, juvenile law, mental health, cyber bullying, updates on legislative actions, response to violent encounters, child protection, leadership training and best practices. The summit is being held at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 1921 South 10th Street, McAllen.
