Mission CISD entries in Parade of Oranges earn awards

 

            Mission, Texas- Eleven entries into the annual Texas Citrus Fiesta Parade of Oranges by Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) schools or school groups earned awards this past weekend. The parade theme this year was Citrus, Cartoons & Comic Book Characters.

            In the valley products float division, Mission Collegiate High School took first place with their Shrek-inspired float. It included Shrek in knight’s armor riding a dragon, with Fiona on a bench, and a large breed dog playing the part of Donkey. The Mission High School FFA Chapter’s super-hero inspired float earned the group third place in the valley products float division.

            In the elementary school float division, Mission CISD schools took the top three prizes. Leal Elementary School’s student council float took first place. The Leal float featured Looney Tunes characters. The Mims Elementary School float with a Peanuts gang theme took second place. The Flintstones were featured in the third place float entered by the Castro Elementary School student council.

            The Veterans Memorial High School JROTC unit took first place in the military marching units division.

            In the marching bands division, Mission High School took second place and Veterans Memorial High School took third place.

            The top three places in the junior high school marching band division all went to Mission CISD schools. The Mission Jr. High School band took first place. Second place went to the K. White Jr. High School band. R. Cantu Jr. High School took third place.
