VMHS mariachis advance to state competition

January 13, 2017- The two mariachi groups of Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) performed for the Texas Association of Mariachi Educators (TAME) Regional Contest yesterday, Thursday, January 12. The JV group, Toros Azules and the varsity group, Toros de Plata received top marks from the judges. The contest adjudicates on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being superior excellence in tone, technique, musicianship, and presentation. Both groups earned Division 1 ratings from each of the three judges.

            This is the first time the JV Toros Azules group has performed at this contest.

            For the Varsity Toros de Plata, this marks the third year in a row that they have qualified for the TAME state competition. That event will be held in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, February 4.
