Veterans Memorial High School's Stephanie Leger Secures Spot at State VASE Competition

Veterans Memorial High School art students earned 15 Gold Medal recognition at the District VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition, making their artwork eligible to advance to the State VASE. First-time competitor Stephanie Leger received the highest award possible, “State Qualifier,” and a separate medal, that secured her spot at state. Her mixed-media drawing, “Extinct,” depicts a wolf in a forest setting.

Leger’s piece will be judged April 29 in San Antonio, where she and her art teachers, will be able to attend workshops and break-out sessions at the VASE conference.

A total of 21 VMHS students participated in the District VASE competition and had their artwork judged alongside hundreds of competitors from throughout the Rio Grande Valley. The Gold Medal winners are: Emily Arevalo, Alejandro Elizondo, Cassandra Galvez, Kimberly Garcia, Kimberly Garza, Desiree Gonzalez, Emily Guerra, Daniela Guervara, Fabian Gutierrez, Stephanie Leger, Victoria Moreno, Ricardo Puente Guerrero, Natalia Rosales, and Valeria Trevino.
