Mission CISD honors and thanks volunteers

            Mission, Texas- Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) took a moment today to recognize the important role that volunteers play in the success of schools. The district’s department of Family and Community Engagement hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon that was part celebration and part recognition.

            The whole event was dedicated to the memory of a volunteer who has been a part of several schools as a volunteer for 20 years before her passing in the fall of 2016. A special presentation was made to the family of Hermelinda Gonzalez.

            During the event, the members of the Superintendent’s Advisory Council, the District Advisory Council, and the top campus volunteers were all recognized. The top campus volunteers recognized were: Martha Ortega, Alton Elementary School; Jennifer Driscoll, Bryan Elementary School; Maria Suarez, Cantu Elementary School; Blanca Lopez, Castro Elementary School; Veronica Vega, Cavazos Elementary School; Dolores Zamarripa, Escobar/Rios Elementary School; Monica Pimentel, Leal Elementary School; Ana Villalobos, Marcell Elementary School; Nellie Sanchez, Midkiff Elementary School; Idalia Zapata, Mims Elementary School; Rosa Gonzalez, O’Grady Elementary School; Hilda Hidrogo, Pearson Elementary School; Claudia Mendoza, Salinas Elementary School; Esmeralda Cantu, Waitz Elementary School; Nereyda Cantu, Alton Memorial Jr. High School; Rosa Leal, K. White Jr. High School; Laura Gonzalez, Mission Jr. High School; Fabiola Alvarado, R. Cantu Jr. High School; Irene Molina, Mission Collegiate High School; Lucia Rubio, Mission High School; Laura Gonzalez, Veterans Memorial High School.

            As a part of highlighting the hours of time given by school volunteers,Superintendent Dr. Ricardo López  presented the coordinator of Family and Community Engagement, Nancy Villarreal, with a “check” representing the volunteers in terms of a salary, if they hours had been paid time. The time donated by volunteers represented a total of $126,820.41 in services provided.
