Mission CISD robotics teams impress at HESTEC

                Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) fielded seven teams at this year’s HESTEC robotics day competitions. The competitions are sumo-wrestling style contests on a small circle. The two competing robots try to push their competitor out of the ring to win the match. A total of 60 teams entered the contest.

                The teams from Mission CISD were: Alton Memorial Jr. High (AMJH) School Green Robo-Rangers, Mission High School (MHS) Maroon Robo-Rangers, Mission CISD Migrant High Schools Black Robo-Rangers, Mission CISD Migrant Middle Schools Silver Robo-Rangers, K. White Jr. High School (KWJH), Mission Collegiate High School(MCHS), and Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS).

                Five of the teams advanced to the “Sweet 16”. They were: AMJH Green Robo-Rangers, Migrant High School Black Robo-Rangers, Migrant Middle School Silver Robo-Rangers, MHS Maroon Robo-Rangers, MCHS.

                Four advanced into the “Elite 8”. They were: AMJH Green Robo-Rangers, MHS Maroon Robo-Rangers, Migrant High School Black Robo-Rangers, Migrant Middle School Silver Robo-Rangers.

                The AMJH Green Robo-Rangers finished the sumo-style competition in third place and also won third place in the HESTEC Team Spirit contest. The team members are: Carlos Hernandez, Josue Silva, Bianca Rosales, Emily Barragan, Perla Del Angel, Priscilla Quintero, Vanessa Quintero, Isla Coronado, Farith Elvira, Antonio Navarro.

                The Migrant High School Black Robo-Rangers finished in fourth place. Team members are: Nancy Olvera, MHS; Kevin Maldonado, MCHS; Giselle Low, MCHS; Kysela Garcia, MHS; Damian Gutierrez, MHS.

                The Migrant Middle School Silver Robo-Rangers tied in fifth place. Team members are: Macario Briceno, AMJH; Jose Hernandez, AMJH; Robert Low, R. Cantu Jr. High School (RCJH); Brianda Grimaldo, RCJH; Kimberly Maldonado, AMJH.

                The MHS Maroon Robo-Rangers finished the competition in seventh place. Team members are: Maximo Briones, Enrique Cantu, Kristian Gabriela Reyna, Tyresse Lopez, Alejandro Martinez, Jesus Martinez.

                The MCHS team consisted of: Laurencio Barrera, Ivens Martinez, Justin Villasenor, Steve Hoyuela, Sara Gonzalez.

                The KWJH team came in second place in the Team Spirit competition. For this competition, teams created a seven second VINE video. The general public was then given the opportunity to show their support and spirit by participating in online voting for their favorites. Members of the KWJH team are: Alejandro Hernandez, Arnulfo Salazar III, Esteban Lopez, Alan Castellanos, Joseph Wyant, Alondra Martinez. The team’s Vine video garnered over 800 votes, resulting in the second place finish for team spirit.
