VMHS mariachi student earns spot in TMEA Regional Mariachi group

Recent auditions for two Texas Music Educators Association Region 15 All Region Mariachi ensembles are very competitive as the number of positions in each group is very limited. These two mariachi groups will comprise the very best mariachi students in the area; and will include a vocalist from Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS).

Alejandro Peralez received the lead tenor, first chair in Region 15 All Region Mariachi A Group. Peralez will now join the others in the region who have earned a coveted spot in the regional groups for two days of rehearsals and clinics that will end with a special concert. The All Region Mariachi concert will be held on February 28, at the Valley View High School Auditorium.

The clinics Peralez will attend will be headed by Jose Hernandez, musical director for the Grammy nominated Mariachi Sol de Mexico.

Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) had four students tackle the All Region auditions for vocalist positions. They were: Stephany Lopez, Mission High School, 11th chair soprano; Carolina Gonzalez, Mission High School, 7th chair soprano; Alexis Gonzalez, VMHS, 6th chair bass; and Peralez. Only the top two in each vocal category become members of the All Region Mariachis.
