MHS DECA project supports Palm Valley Animal Center

The Mission High School DECA Chapter has taken on a community service project this year that is helping our four-legged friends who find themselves at the Palm Valley Animal Center. Called the DECA Pet Rescue, it has the students working to raise awareness of the needs of the animal shelter that include: pet food, pet adoptions, and the care of the animals at the shelter.

A major part of the project involved a pet food and toy drive that lasted a month. The DECA students decorated boxes and distributed them throughout the campus to collect the donations. Flyers and announcements kept the issue active in student’s minds during the donation period.

Twelve DECA students recently delivered the 306 items of food and toys for the animals housed at the Palm Valley Animal Center. While at the center, the students attended an orientation and have been certified to do volunteer time at the animal center. They also spent several hours during this visit helping with work at the facility.

For more information about animal fostering, adopting, or volunteering opportunities contact the Palm Valley Animal Center at 956-686-1141. It is located at 2501 W. Trenton Rd., Edinburg, Texas.
