VMHS mariachi group advances to state competition for the first time

The Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) Varsity Mariachi Toros de Plata competed in the area Mexican American School Board Association (MASBA) mariachi contest this past weekend. They not only earned a top division one rating, but also earned an invitation to the MASBA State Mariachi Contest. This is the first time a mariachi group from VMHS has advanced to a state level competition. The Mariachi Toros de Plata will compete along with the best from around the state on February 7 at Southwest High School in San Antonio, Texas.

The Texas Association of Mariachi Educators (TAME) and the MASBA combined to create this educationally focused competitive activity for high school mariachi ensembles. The event is founded on sound educational principles and is designed to provide enriching musical experiences for this genre of fine arts programs.
