Welcome to Curriculum and Instruction Division

Welcome to Mission Consolidated Independent School District’s Educational Services. We are proud of the educational program we offer our students. They are challenged to excel in the core subject areas as well as participate in a variety of educational opportunities that address their creative interests, their physical development and their social needs.

Mission Consolidated Independent School District is encouraged by the words of Nelson Mandela:
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

We take seriously our responsibility to educate each and every child to be equipped to excel in the college and career of their choice, dominate 21st century skills in leadership, knowledge, language, and technology to compete in a global economy and serve as successful citizens in our community.  To fulfil this responsibility, we must ensure a quality and equitable education through providing a standards based written curriculum, delivery of student-centered instruction aligned to the curriculum while students are actively engaged in their learning.  We believe instruction must be aligned to the written, taught, and assessed curriculum, reflecting high expectations for student achievement.

The role of all educators in Mission CISD is summarized by the district’s collective commitments:

We believe that we have the duty to foster opportunities for each student to build a legacy of success. We, therefore, collectively commit to:
        • Putting students first and inspiring innovation
        • Taking ownership of a collaborative, educational partnership through student, parent, and civic engagement
        • Understanding cultural diversity with the ability to relate effectively amidst varied cultures within a global economy
        • Learning professionally for continuous improvement

Teachers must incorporate the 5 Cs of communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and caring in delivery of instruction as they experience the changing role of the teacher from “sage on the stage” to “guide on the side”.  Teachers also ensure students are taught the 5 Rs of rigor, relevance, relationships, results, and reflection.  Building positive relationships with students is essential in teaching as reflected in a quote from John C. Maxwell“Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

In Mission CISD, curriculum refers to the knowledge, skills, concepts, attitudes, and processes students are expected to learn and apply at appropriate levels across the district from Pre-Kindergarten to high school graduation.  The district’s written curriculum provides the framework for what must be taught and measures to evaluate effectiveness; curriculum refers to what is written, taught, and tested.  Teachers have flexibility in determining the tools, suggestions, and support for how to teach the curriculum.  The district determines the “ends” (curriculum and assessment), while the campuses determine the “means” (instruction and programs).  Mission CISD incorporates a “Tightly Held/Loosely Held Balance”:
