Click for Care: Successful Telemedicine Solutions for Mission CISD Students

MISSION, TEXAS (April 8, 2024) - Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) has built a partnership with Goodside Health to introduce on-demand telehealth services aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility for all students. Branded as Mission CISD SchoolMed telehealth services, this initiative has set a new standard for healthcare delivery within the district.

Under this program, students can now access medical consultations conveniently from the school nurse’s office, with minimal or no cost burden on their families. The collaboration between Mission CISD and Goodside Health has already witnessed success, with a total of 805 successful sick visits logged. Moreover, these consultations have resulted in significant academic hours saved, totaling an impressive 6,275.5 hours (about 8 and a half months) on average.

The daily savings of approximately $48,000 in attendance costs highlight the impact of Mission CISD SchoolMed telehealth services on the district. By reducing the need for students to miss school due to illness and medical appointments, Mission CISD can redirect resources toward enhancing educational opportunities and support services.

"As a parent myself, I understand the urgency of getting our children the care they need without delay. At Mission CISD, our internal healthcare services streamline the process, ensuring quick access to providers,” Patricia Saenz, Registered Nurse with Mission CISD said.

Additionally, our telemedicine services extend this convenience to our staff as well, prioritizing their health and well-being."

The impact of this initiative is evident in the pediatric demographic, which constitutes a significant portion of the serviced patients, standing at 87.95%. By providing timely medical attention, Mission CISD ensures that its students remain healthy and engaged in their studies. Additionally, adult patients, constituting 12% of the total visits, can also have the opportunity to benefit from this service.

Yesenia Treviño, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, Health Services Director overseeing the initiative, expressed her enthusiasm for the program.

We are excited to witness the positive outcomes of our partnership with Goodside Health,” Trevino said. “This initiative emphasizes our commitment to ensuring the well-being of our students. By leveraging telehealth technology, we are not only addressing immediate healthcare needs but also enabling our students to prioritize their health without compromising their academic pursuits.

All campuses within Mission CISD are fully equipped and prepared to accommodate patient visits. Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact their respective campus nurses for more information on accessing these telehealth services.
