Mission, Texas- Among the many Earth Day related activities that our schools participate in, Cavazos Elementary School not only challenged themselves with participating in a special plastic bag recycling contest sponsored by H-E-B, they were the regional winner of the contest. The students and staff collected a total of 17,475 plastic bags for recycling. Mrs. A. Garcia’s class (pictured here) brought in the most at the school, collecting 2,340 bags.
In addition to knowing they helped the environment, H-E-B provided a $150 gift card. The top collecting classes will also be participating in a field trip to the McAllen Recycling Center for a special tour. The outing will also include a stop at Zinnia Park for lunch, and a tour of H-E-B.
