Veterans Memorial FFA Chapter earns multiple honors at state convention

Mission, Texas- The Veterans Memorial FFA Chapter recently returned home from the 87th Annual Texas State FFA Convention with several honors.

Rene Olivarez placed second in the Texas FFA extemporaneous speaking contest. He advanced through one of 57 district competitions in the state and finished as an Area X winner as well.

Speaking participants select from one of three topics drawn randomly and have 30 minutes to research the agricultural topic and prepare a four to six minute speech. The speech is presented before a panel of judges and is followed by a five-minute question and answer period designed to test the student’s knowledge of the subject matter.

Four Veterans Memorial FFA Chapter students were also awarded the Lone Star FFA Degree; which is the highest degree bestowed by the Texas FFA. They were: Christina Reyna, Samantha Diaz, Zenaida Alaniz, David Bazan Jr.
