Two-Wheeled Safety

Fifth grade students at Pearson Elementary School recently took part in an educational presentation on bicycle safety. During the presentation, the Hidalgo County Metropolitan Planning Organization (HCMPO) educated the students on the rules and safety requirements when riding bikes. The instruction started with presentations that covered everything from hand signals to bike inspections, and safe riding tips. After the presentation, the students were given an opportunity to practice their knowledge, riding their own bikes or using bikes provide for the event. The students had to complete a set course, and then were quizzed on appropriate hand signals for turning and stopping. HCMPO also provided each student with a bicycle safety helmet.  Pearson Elementary thanks the following for their involvement in the bike safety campaign: Michael McNew, Run-Ride-Share coordinator; Andrew Connor, City of McAllen; Jose Esqueda, City of McAllen; Jeff Underwood, City of Alton; Linda De La Fuente, HCMPO; Lillian Champion, HCMPO; Commissioner Veronica Whitacre, City of McAllen.
