Mission CISD phlebotomy students ready for work

Mission, Texas- Sixteen students from Mission High School (MHS) and Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) are ready to enter the professional workforce, several weeks before they get their high school diplomas. The dual enrollment phlebotomy students have been working on their skills and knowledge through the program offered through the district’s partnership with South Texas College.

Their hard work paid off this week when they came together in a computer lab to take the national phlebotomy certification exam. All the participating students passed the national exam and can now apply for jobs in any hospital or clinic to work as a certified phlebotomist. Phlebotomists are people trained to draw blood from a patient for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, or donations.

The certified phlebotomists from VMHS are: Brittany Cuellar, Victoria Fajardo, Sofia Puga, Daisy Rios, Katia Rodriguez, Julio Santana, Rosa Silva, Michael Velazquez. The newly certified phlebotomists from MHS are: Anaji Barajas, Myra Gill, Gerardo Gonzalez, Jesselle Gonzalez, Rosa Gonzalez, Alexis Martinez, Deanne Navarro, Juan Olvera.
