Students explore STEM through Drone Camp

Mission, Texas- R. Cantu Jr. High School (RCJH) was buzzing this week. But the buzzing was not the usual summer school activity. It was a special Drone Camp held this week in partnership with Nerdvana and Border Kids Code.

Students in grades 5-7 explored drone technology, how drones have been used in the past, how they are used now, how they can be used in the future, and how Math and Science are used in drone navigation. Students worked in teams on several challenges that also help with the development of communication skills.

An example of one of the challenges is pictured here. Students used drones, and the use of X and Y coordinate grids to compete in a classroom-sized version of the game Battleship.

Very small quadcopter-style drones were provided for each student to construct and use.
