Student-created animation to be counselor’s tool

Mission, Texas- As the school starts for Mission Consolidated Independent School District students, school counselors will have a new tool to use when they have lessons about bullying. That tool is a special video created as a school project by a student at Veterans Memorial High School.

Incoming sophomore, Fabian Gutierrez said he had a storyline in his head immediately after they were given the classroom assignment. The students had several options they could choose from for their finished product. Gutierrez chose to create an animated video. He was able to take advantage of 3D, open-source software that he had discovered the previous year.

Gutierrez said he created the script for his video project in about a day. One of his creative goals was to bring characters to life in a way that viewers would be able to connect with and be emotionally moved by them. He said it took him just over a month to finish the video.

Gutierrez said he hopes the video helps get the message across that bullying can be stopped. The video can be viewed online, through the Mission CISD YouTube channel, https://youtu.be/YyDJafzuUK4.

Pictured is Gutierrez as he presented his project during the Advanced Academic Services Fair in May.
