Five Mission HS Welders Earn $250 Scholarship at Torch Cutting Contest

Five Mission High School students won $250 scholarships to be applied toward studies at the Tulsa Welding College campus located in Houston. The welding students participated in the Torch Cutting Contest sponsored by Tulsa Welding College. They competed in three rounds that tested different levels of torch-cutting abilities. Two students, Morgan Soliz and Carlos Gonzalez, already applied and were accepted to the Tulsa Welding campus and plan on making use of their scholarship money to help them further their education in welding.

This is the first time Mission High School has participated in this local college-sponsored torch cutting contest and all students are looking forward to participating in more agricultural and mechanics contests throughout the year. The students who participated were George Salinas, Juan Hernandez, Carlos Gonzalez, Juan Romero, Gilberto Ortiz, Michael Gonzalez, Morgan Soliz, and Felipe Zamora. The sponsors were Clarissa Saenz, Eduardo Salinas, Marcos Villarreal, and Benito Garza.
