A hands-on look at democracy and leadership

 

            Nine migrant junior high school students spent part of their early summer in Austin attending the Close Up Texas Migrant Middle School Program. The program is designed to build the students’ sense of connection to the rights and responsibilities of citizens in a democracy. During the three-day program, students learned about Texas’ history, participated in hands-on examinations of the structure and functions of the Texas state government, and visited university campuses.

            The Mission CISD students who participated included: Esmeralda Anzaldua, Nilse M. Garza, Raul Grimaldo, Adrian Gutierrez Jr., Stephanie L. Olvera, Mackenzie N. Oviedo, Patricia Rodriguez, Jose Rosales, Angel Saldana, Melina Villarreal.

            The Texas Migrant Middle School Program was June 8-10.
