Veterans Memorial High School’s Deyanira Picazo to travel US and Spain for summer educational programs

Deyanira Picazo, of Veterans Memorial High School, will be having a busy summer transitioning between summer programs. Heading into her junior year, Deyanira, is already on her way to forging her postsecondary career.  She was selected to take part in the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Lowell, Massachusetts on June 25-27 where she will meet with medical school admissions officers, and renowned doctors and medical researchers who will guide her in the process of establishing a career in medicine. She was also awarded the Academic Achievement Scholarship by Oxbridge Academic Programs to attend La Academia de España July 4-31.

Deyanira said she competed with people from all over the world for the scholarship and given a choice from traveling through the United States and Europe, she opted for Salamanca, Spain.

I chose Spain because of its culture, architecture and language,” said Deyanira. “I just thought that going to the nation where the Spanish language began and the city from where Cristobal Colon departed to the New World sounds unreal! This is a huge opportunity for me.”

Oxbridge Academic Programs enable students to learn a language through full-immersion, and also learn the history and culture of their selected region.
