Successes catch the eye of Alliance CEO

The successful momentum of Mission CISD schools in developing healthier school climates for students and staff resulted in a special visit on Monday. The CEO of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation (Alliance), Dr. Howell Wechsler dropped in on the district to visit with staff and to not only thank district employees on promoting healthier habits, but also to encourage them to keep up the momentum being built.

Wechsler visited with Superintendent, Dr. Ricardo López and then Marcell Elementary School. Wechsler made a point of visiting Marcell, as they are a Gold level school in the Alliance program for 2017.

Changes and programs being implemented this coming school year could result in all Mission CISD schools attaining at least a Silver recognition in the Alliance’s program. This would place Mission CISD and its schools into a level of achievement that very few in the country attain.

Over the past two years, all Mission CISD schools have been recognized as among the healthiest schools in America by the Alliance. The Alliance supports more than 31,000 schools serving 19 million students in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, in their efforts to become healthier places where physical activity and healthier foods are available before, during, and after school.
