Mission CISD hosts ribbon cutting ceremony for Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium

Mission CISD officially opened its doors to the recently renovated Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium on Friday, August 31, 2018. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held before The Battle of Conway in which the Board of Trustees, Superintendent Dr. Carol G. Perez, district administration, City of Mission Mayor - Dr. Armando Ocaña, students and parents were in attendance. The district also took the opportunity to honor the eight Mission CISD graduates that were inducted into the RGV Sports Hall of Fame.

 

*Mr. Roy Garcia (1993 RGV Sports Hall of Fame) and best known for many of years of coaching    basketball.

* Mr. Oton Guerrero (1995 RGV Sports Hall of Fame) best known as a football player, golf player,

and coach.

* Mrs. Carmen G., Martinez (1995 RGV Sports Hall of Fame) honored for her time as a volleyball

coach.

* Mr. Rene G. Garza (2006 RGV Sports Hall of Fame) known as a basketball coach.

* Mr. Eliseo Pompa (2007 RGV Sports Hall of Fame) best known for his time as a football player,

baseball player and coach.

* Mrs. Iris Iglesias (2012 RGV Sports Hall of Fame) honored for her tenure as a softball coach.

* Mr. Lupe Rodriguez (2015 RGV Sports Hall of Fame) known as football player and coach.

* Mr. Nati Valdez (2015 RGV Sports Hall of Fame) honored as a football player.

 

At the entrance of the stadium hangs multiple banners with the pictures of the honorees displayed in recognition of their athletic accomplishments. This is a true testament to the service they have provided our students and how their example of sportsmanship has been ingrained in our athletes.
