Mission CISD is creating awareness for childhood cancer by being the first in the area to have kicked-off the Go Gold campaign before the football game on August 31st. Several childhood cancer survivors from the community were acknowledged before the game. The audience applauded their determination and their commitment to never giving up hope.
Football players, coaches, cheerleaders, and administration wore their gold wrist bands in support of this special cause. The district in conjunction with The Faith Family Friends Foundation will be joining their efforts for National Childhood Cancer Awareness this month by Going Gold!
“It’s our mission tonight and all month to assist in creating awareness for childhood cancer,” said Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “It is our hope that awareness will lead to funding for research that will one day lead to a cure for a disease that does not discriminate.”
The honorees are: Olivia Torres, Kenneth Risen, Angel Perraza, Larissa Martinez, Alecxis Acevedo, Ulisses Lopez, Diana Trejo, Emily Flores, Lauren Ayala, Eliza Michelle Cardona, Katelyn Adkins, and Abigail Castro.
Childhood cancer affects one in every 285 children and because the causes are unknown it cannot be prevented. Every day 43 children are diagnosed with this disease and we will continue to raise awareness for this cause.
