Mission CISD sharing experiences at national College Board Forum

Mission CISD’s (Consolidated Independent School District) Operation College Bound, required college readiness courses and other activities are being highlighted at the national level this week. Several high school administrators and a representative from South Texas College are presenting a session during the 2014 College Board Forum being held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mission CISD and South Texas College has a long-standing partnership which has helped transform approaches to college readiness. These have included Operation College Bound, dual enrollment, school-to-career, recovery programs, early college high schools, and others.

The session being presented is called, Demystifying the College Process via Targeted Opportunities and Required Readiness Classes. Participants will assess how Mission CISD’s required college readiness classes create an infrastructure of support, enabling all students to prepare for college entrance exams, complete college applications, and fill out financial aid paperwork. Participants in the session will also get to develop their own strategies, using Mission CISD as a model.

The presenters at the College Board Forum are: Orlando Farias, principal of Mission Collegiate High School; Mary Aleman, administrator for Career Tech Early College High School Academy at Mission High School; Sergio Pena, director for Career Technical Education; and Nicolas Gonzalez, administrator for high school programs and services at South Texas College.

The Mission CISD administrators were not only looking forward to sharing the successes of Mission CISD at the national conference, they were also looking forward to learning more from other presentations. They hope to come back with new ideas and possible best practices from educational leaders in other parts of the country.
