Mission CISD now has additional support to offer students and families in the area of mental health services.

hi everyone and welcome to another Corner conversation I'm Craig Burley in joining us in the corner today is that your Jesse Trevino who is in charge of our counselors and student services programs here at Mission CISD hello Mission CISD I'm glad you could join us in the corner and would you call this corner conversation because we literally record these little tag months in a corner of my office so you know only makes sense right mr. Trevino is here to talk to a solute more about some new services that are actually available to students and families to support mental health here in Mission CISD that we've been wanting to do for a lot of years and this is the first year we've been able to do it and we've introduced for new positions this year they are called lights professional counselors mail PCS Metro PCS that's what's up other nicknames are I guess you can say what is it that the licensed professional counselors do for us the most intense students are the worst they have that deep resistant emotional and deeds and they're referred by our counselors you say the referred by are counselors that's how if a student or parents feel that their students need some help they go to the regular school counselor first then write the council we have that process and there's some of the depends know that we already have the LPC and they want to talk to him so that's another way of doing it so if a student job feels the need for some additional emotional or support in terms of dealing with some of the issues they first go to the counselor and then what happen from there there's a referral so they do the referral Wednesday lpc's get the referral they call him to parents because this is the difference between but the Council of doing that and the LPC this is their license so they want all the family Dynamics so they call the parents in to do the intake and they're usually take 45 an hour but they want to know everything what's what's happening with child so that's what the difference is and it's a longer process but hopefully the student will get well. Taking the mental health resources available to our students and families to the next level and yeah yeah yeah if you were to go to a regular counselor outside of the school district this is something that is available free of charge and right to our students in our family we are helping those parents in that family let me use extra help part of the reason why we were able to do this this school year is due to some additional funding that was made available to us from the most recent legislative session right this one of the house bills and I do we need to concentrate on our mental health some of the safety protocols that are involved in the correct mental health issues you know some of the students might go still doing them take things in our schools and our squabbles or for those parents and or students that may feel the need of additional support their first step is to contact to the counselor the regular counselor at the school right lpc's and LPC make that into appointment with the parent very good so to get that additional help from a licensed school counselor I can never get that straight counselor and then they will help you get in touch with 34 L PCS that are available for Peter pattern 1 station admission High School the other ones go to the other one goes to Andy Elementary for veterans and the other one for that feeder schools very good for you. Another way that were continuing to improve upon the mental health resources that are available to our students and families here with a mission CISD Jesse Trevino thank you very much for joining for this quarter conversation students I will see you at the next Corner conversation
