Fluency is the bride to comprehension! Use buddies building fluency activities to ensure all students are getting enough practice.

fluency is the bridge to comprehension what's a reader does not have to put their entire focus on decoding words they can focus instead on understanding what they are reading what type of activities could I play that are not teacher-directed to improve fluency students need to read over and over which takes time is store supply for most teachers the answer is Buddy's building fluency that could be used during centers word list as written the directions student one with the first word and student to the next word and back to student one they will take turns until the minute is complete then they will start again but now student to will start this one sure students recite all the words this should take two minutes with one minute of graphing and transition time for fluency phrases will follow the same procedures as with fluency word length the timer start student one will be the first phrase student to will be the second phrase and they will continue to take turns until the 1-minute is complete they will ban switch roles for another minute listen you should take 2 minutes plus 1 minute of graphing and transition time fluency passages will continue with the same procedures partner one is the reader while Partner II is the listener partner to also tracks any errors at the end of one minute they will calculate the amount of words read correctly the results then they will switch roles partner one is now the listener Partner II is the reader using the same premises as mentioned on the Buddies building fluency in repeated reading students can receive feedback and guidance reading appropriate text from their peers using going to checks this reading fluency activity must be explicitly modeled by the teacher before students can do this independently please refer to the directions to ensure we use the center correctly you will find all of the resources used for Buddy's building fluency in our language arts Google folder number 94 staff development
