Mission CISD Migrant students attend Summer Camp

Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) Migrant students from Mission High School (MHS), Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) and Mission Collegiate High School (MCHS) attended camps this summer. A group of students attended the Migrant University Summer Experience (MUSE) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley while others attended the Migrant Academic Achievement Residency Summer Experience (MAARS) at Texas State Technical College from June 2 to July 12, 2019. The 6-week residential summer instructional programs (MUSE and MAARS) offer various opportunities to all migrant students.

 Camps focus on various opportunities such as:                                               

  •         instruction leading to high school credit accrual;
  •         an on-campus university residential experience;
  •         professional workplace and career exploration internships;
  •         college readiness and leadership seminars;
  •         a tour of Texas universities;
  •         concluding graduation ceremony;
  •         living allowances; and,
  •         follow-up on pre-college seminars during the following academic year

 

MUSE Camp students: Randy Alvarez (VMHS), Abisai Barrientos (MHS), Janie Perez (VMHS), Maria Rangel (MHS), Cristal Rosales (MHS), Gulmaro Salinas, V (MHS), Gulmaro Salinas, VI (MHS), and Elba Carmona (MCHS).

 

MAARS Camp students: Victoria Espinoza (MHS), Joselin Garza (MHS), Nilse Garza (MHS), Rosa Maria Garza (MHS), Kassandra Oviedo (MHS), and Mackenzie Oviedo (VMHS).
