Mission CISD offering Drive Up WiFi for students

Mission, Texas- As Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) students start their at-home remote asynchronous learning district officials, knew one roadblock for some students would be a lack of internet access at home. While the district has made hotspots available to many families who indicated a need, there may be others who are looking for another option. The district is implementing a Drive Up Student WiFi service at over 45 locations throughout the district

“Technology inequalities have presented a real challenge for the district as it has strived to fulfill its state mandate to continue student instruction as best as possible,” explained Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “We have been able to make the necessary arrangements to supplement the available hotspots with a drive up service at each of our campuses and over 20 other locations around the district.”

Dr. Perez explained that there had to be a few adjustments made to the system configurations to allow for the access while also keeping in mind the requirements for student internet safety.

Drive Up WiFi services are now being offered for students Monday-Friday, from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and will provide a speed and bandwidth not possible through mobile hotspots. The Drive Up WiFi signal at the schools will be identified as: Mission CISD student WiFi. The student password is: student2020. The off campus WiFi will be identified as MCISD Student WiFi. The Drive Up WiFi will be available at over 45 locations throughout the district. Those locations include: each Mission CISD campus, plus over 20 other locations to help provide as much convenience as possible. The current list of non-campus based locations is available on the district website (www.mcisd.net), or the district’s social media.

All participants must remain in their cars and abide by local social distancing requirements while on school grounds.
