Mission CISD in-person athletics to start September 28

            Mission, Texas- Student varsity athletes at Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD), involved in fall sports will have a competitive season. District officials have announced the return of in-person student athletics for varsity sports, beginning September 28th. 

            “After cautiously and meticulously assessing all data gathered, the decision has been made to take a measured return to in-person athletics by starting with our varsity teams,” explained Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “For parents who choose to allow their children to participate, we would like to assure them that we will be taking appropriate safeguards based upon the standards of the CDC, UIL, the state, and our local officials.”

            Dr. Perez said this will include daily screenings, frequent and regular disinfecting, physical distancing, masks, etc. High school athletic coaches will share details on schedules and expectations with students and parents. 

            The first competitions could begin as soon as October 6th with a volleyball scrimmage and October 9thwith the VMHS vs MHS scrimmage. When competitions do begin, audiences will be limited to two guests per athlete. No other student groups like bands, cheerleaders, etc. will attend competitions. Audience members at Mission CISD venues will be screened, sanitation stations will be provided, distancing standards will be enforced, and masks will be required.
