Mission CISD Support Services Secures $1.5 Million Grant to Support Student Well-being

 

Mission, Texas – Mission Consolidated Independent School District's (CISD) Support Services team has been awarded the 2024-2025 Stronger Connections Grant from the Texas Education Agency.

 

The grant, estimated at $1.5 million, is set to fortify Mission CISD's commitment to fostering a safe and nurturing environment for students.

 

The Stronger Connections Grant, designed by the Texas Education Agency, focuses on enhancing responses to bullying, violence, and acts of hate within school communities. It also places an emphasis on promoting the overall well-being of students, encompassing their academics, mental health, behavioral, emotional, and physical welfare.

 

Mission CISD Support Services has outlined a comprehensive plan to utilize the grant effectively. The $1.5 million will fund crucial resources aimed at providing comprehensive support for students. Among the key initiatives, the grant will facilitate the hiring of two Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC’s), Intern LPC’s, two social workers, and an additional part-time School Resource Officer.

 

In response to the news, Lorena Garcia, Mission CISD Deputy Superintendent for Support Services, expressed her enthusiasm for the positive impact the Stronger Connections Grant will have on Mission CISD.

 

 "This grant is a transformative step forward for our district, allowing us to address the diverse needs of our students comprehensively,” Garcia said. “By fostering stronger connections within our school community, we are not just providing education; we are cultivating an environment where every student can thrive."

 

In addition to the mental and emotional well-being focus, the grant will enable Mission CISD to enhance campus security by bringing on board an additional part-time School Resource Officer.

 

Mission CISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Carol G. Perez expressed her gratitude, stating, "This grant is a testament to the tireless dedication of our Support Services team. Their commitment to the well-being of our students shines through, and we are excited to implement these initiatives that will undoubtedly make a positive impact on our school community."
