Mission CISD Welcomes Dr. Cris Valdez as New Superintendent

 

MISSION, TEXAS (September 16, 2024) - The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees has officially appointed Dr. Cris Valdez as the Superintendent of the district. The announcement was made during a special meeting held Monday, September 16, 2024.  

Dr. Valdez brings over 32 years of experience in education to the role. Her most recent role was the Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Region One Education Service Center. 

β€œI am deeply grateful to the Mission CISD Board of Trustees and the entire Mission community for placing their trust in me to serve in this role,” Valdez said. β€œIt is a tremendous honor and responsibility that I do not take lightly. Every single day, I am committed to working tirelessly for the success of our children, ensuring they have the opportunities, support, and resources they need to thrive."

Dr. Valdez began her career in education as a substitute teacher with Weslaco ISD. Over the years, she has held various roles, including high school English teacher, varsity athletic coach, varsity cheer coach, high school assistant principal, middle school principal, elementary principal, and district bilingual coordinator. 

She previously served Mission CISD as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and as Interim Superintendent from 2017 through June 2018. 

Additionally, Dr. Valdez also has experience as Assistant Superintendent in Garland ISD, where she supported 56,000 students, and served as Interim Superintendent in Weslaco ISD in 2021.  

Mission CISD Board of Trustees President, Iris Iglesias congratulated Dr. Valdez at the meeting.
