MISSION, TEXAS (JUNE 5, 2025) - Mission Consolidated Independent School District (Mission CISD) is once again partnering with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to provide free and nutritious meals to children under 18 through the Seamless Summer Option program.
Free Breakfast and Lunch All Summer
Through the Seamless Summer Option, any child under the age of 18—regardless of enrollment or residency—can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost throughout the summer.
“We partner up with the TDA to offer free and nutritious meals to the students throughout the summer,” said Marcos Rodriguez, Child Nutrition Director for Mission CISD. “Anyone from the community or anyone under the age of 18 can come in and get a free lunch or breakfast, because some of these students rely on our meals throughout the summer to have something to eat.”
Open to All Children, No Registration Needed
Children do not need to be enrolled in a Mission CISD school or live within district boundaries to participate.
“No, the students do not need to be enrolled, nor do they need to be from this community,” Rodriguez explained. “The only criteria is that they're under the age of 18.”
Mission CISD is operating the summer meal program at 10 sites, including schools like Mission High School, Veterans Memorial High School, and Cavazos Elementary.
“We’re doing about 1,200 lunches and about maybe 1,500 breakfasts daily,” said Rodriguez.
Where to Find Site Schedules
A full schedule, including serving times and locations, is available on the Child Nutrition webpage at: Mission CISD Child Nutrition page.
“You can go to our district website, then to our Child Nutrition District webpage, and we’ll have our schedule of all the sites that we currently have open with times and dates,” said Rodriguez. “Before the end of the school year, we also pass out flyers at the front offices for students to take home.”
Supporting Families Through Summer
Rodriguez emphasized the value of this program for local families facing food insecurity over the summer break.
“It just gives the students an opportunity to have a meal that they might not have at home,” he said. “During the school year, we’re able to provide them with breakfast and lunch. Throughout the summer, maybe it might be difficult for some families to offer the meal, so we provide this service so they can come here and have a free and nutritious meal.”
A Seamless Transition from the School Year
The Seamless Summer Option is an extension of Mission CISD’s regular school meal programs.
“The reason it's called Seamless Summer Option is because it’s just like what we do in the regular school year,” Rodriguez explained. “It’s a transition—the same school lunch and breakfast programs, just continuing into the summer.”
