MISSION, TEXAS (AUGUST 20, 2025) – Mission Consolidated Independent School District (Mission CISD) is celebrating a new milestone under the leadership of Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Cris Valdez.
Just one year after beginning her tenure, Dr. Valdez has helped lead the district to an overall “B” rating (83 out of 100) from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the 2024–2025 school year.
This represents a five-point gain in only two years, up from a “C” rating (78 out of 100) in 2022–2023.
From the moment she joined Mission CISD, Dr. Valdez hit the ground running with a clear vision: to build on the district’s strengths, raise academic achievement, and ensure every student is prepared for success beyond high school.
That vision—and the collective hard work of the Mission CISD community—has already translated into measurable progress.
According to TEA, the state’s accountability system is designed to continuously improve student performance, close achievement gaps between student groups, and ensure Texas remains a national leader in preparing students for postsecondary success.
A district’s overall rating reflects how much students are learning each year, their readiness for the next grade level, and how well schools prepare students for success after graduation, whether that be in college, the workforce, or the military.
Reflecting on the achievement, Dr. Valdez shared:
“When I began my work in Mission CISD last year, I knew we had incredible potential to grow. This new ‘B’ rating is proof of what can happen when we set ambitious goals and work together to reach them. I want to thank our teachers, staff, students, and families—because together we are creating the kind of success that inspires hope, builds futures, and proves what is possible when a community moves forward as one,” said Valdez.
“I am proud of how far we have come in such a short time, and I am even more excited about the future we are building for our students.”
Dr. Valdez emphasized that this accomplishment is just the beginning. She remains committed to continuing this upward trajectory by focusing on academic growth, expanding innovative programs, and creating even more opportunities for every student to thrive.
Several Mission CISD campuses also earned high marks under the TEA accountability system, further reflecting the district’s upward momentum.
