MISSION, TEXAS (SEPT. 4, 2025) – From the classroom to the clinic, Mission CISD students are on the move! Mission Consolidated Independent School District (Mission CISD) has been awarded a $100,000 grant from Workforce Solutions to create the Healthcare Internship Fund, a program designed to provide high school students with valuable, real-world experience in healthcare settings.
The announcement and check presentation took place on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Mission CISD Annex, where district leaders, Workforce Solutions representatives, Mission CISD students, and community partners gathered to celebrate this important milestone.
The Healthcare Internship Fund will support approximately 120 certified health science students across two Mission CISD high school campuses over the next 12 months. Through the program, students will gain hands-on experience in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities, preparing them for future careers in one of the region’s most in-demand fields.
Edilberto Flores, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Support Services at Mission CISD, emphasized how the support directly benefits students.
"This investment from Workforce Solutions represents a powerful opportunity for our students. It sends a clear message that their future matters and their potential is valued. On behalf of our students, families, and staff, we sincerely thank Workforce Solutions for their generosity."
This partnership is helping strengthen the pipeline of skilled healthcare professionals while also supporting students in achieving career readiness before graduation.
Francisco Almaraz, CEO of Workforce Solutions, emphasized the importance of education in preparing the future healthcare workforce, stating:
"The demand for healthcare continues to grow in the Rio Grande Valley, and this initiative is truly a game changer. By preparing students with the skills and experiences they need, Mission CISD is helping us build long-term workforce stability in our region,” said Almaraz.
The grant will support the expansion of the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, reinforcing Mission CISD’s commitment to providing students with high-quality, hands-on learning opportunities that connect classroom knowledge to workforce skills.
"One of the great things about CTE is the hands-on learning that takes place in the classroom, and our students really love that,” said Jorge Flores, CTE Director at Mission CISD. “This grant is a tremendous opportunity, and we’re proud to be the only district in the area to receive it. Our students have every opportunity available to them—the sky’s the limit."
Mission CISD remains dedicated to empowering students through innovative programs that prepare them for both college and career pathways. The new Healthcare Internship Fund marks another step in ensuring student success while strengthening community partnerships.
We are grateful to Workforce Solutions for this incredible investment in our students and to the Mission CISD Board of Trustees for their continued support in making opportunities like this possible.
