Mission CISD Launches “Behind the Mission” Series to Spotlight Unsung Heroes

MISSION, TEXAS (SEPT. 16, 2025) — Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is proud to announce the launch of a new monthly series titled “Behind the Mission,” a storytelling initiative that shines a light on the dedicated employees who work behind the scenes to keep the district running strong.

From bus drivers and custodians to IT professionals, cafeteria teams, security officers, and administrative staff, “Behind the Mission” will highlight the individuals whose efforts may not always be seen, but whose impact is deeply felt across campuses and departments.

A TRIBUTE TO THE HEART OF OUR SCHOOLS

“Behind the Mission” was created to honor the people who make learning possible every day — those who arrive early, stay late, and ensure that the district’s students, staff, and schools are supported, safe, and successful.

“Our support staff are the heartbeat of Mission CISD,” said Dr. Cris Valdez, Superintendent of Schools. “They play a crucial role in creating a safe and welcoming environment for our students. This series is our way of showing our appreciation and telling their stories.”

Each month, Mission CISD will release a new feature across its website, social media platforms, and internal newsletters, introducing one of these team members through interviews, videos, and photos.

FIRST IN THE SERIES: SECURITY OFFICER BENJAMIN TIJERINA

The first spotlight in the “Behind the Mission” series features Benjamin Tijerina, a security officer at Alton Memorial Jr. High, in celebration of National Security Officer Appreciation Week.

Tijerina shares his passion for safety, how he connects with students, and why his role means so much to him. His full story is available on the Mission CISD website and social media channels.
