Fit for Success: Mission CISD Schools Nationally Recognized as America’s Healthiest Schools

MISSION, TEXAS (SEPT. 18, 2025) – Mission CISD schools don’t just teach health, they live it! Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is proud to announce that all its campuses have been recognized among America’s Healthiest Schools for 2025.

This national recognition is awarded by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a leading children’s health organization that celebrates schools’ commitment to supporting the health and well-being of students, staff, and families.

This year, 1,120 schools nationwide earned the recognition, with only 168 campuses achieving the elite All-Star designation for implementing best practices across all nine health categories.

Mission CISD is proud to share that 12 of its campuses are among those distinguished All-Star schools:

  • Alton Elementary
  • Bryan Elementary
  • Cantu Elementary
  • Cavazos Elementary
  • Marcell Elementary
  • Midkiff Elementary
  • O'Grady Elementary
  • Pearson Elementary
  • Salinas Elementary
  • Waitz Elementary
  • Mission Collegiate High School
  • Mission High School

Schools are evaluated based on criteria outlined in Healthier Generation’s Thriving Schools Integrated Assessment, which covers nine key areas:

  • Strengthening social-emotional health and learning
  • Supporting school health services
  • Implementing local school wellness policy
  • Promoting tobacco-free schools
  • Improving nutrition and food access
  • Cultivating staff well-being
  • Bolstering physical education and activity
  • Increasing family and community engagement
  • Enriching health education

For Mission CISD, the recognition serves as both a celebration and a reflection of the district’s ongoing commitment to student health.

“We have built a strong tradition of supporting student health initiatives through the Alliance for a Healthier Generation,” said Martina Carrillo, Mission CISD Health & Physical Education Coordinator. “This recognition is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and families across the district. Together, we are creating healthier learning environments where students can thrive.”

ALLIANCE FOR A HEALTHIER GENERATION

Mission CISD will be honored on October 22, 2025, at the 2025 America’s Healthiest Schools Leaders’ Summit during the America’s Healthiest Schools Celebration. The recognition celebrates the district’s commitment, along with that of other educators and community members, to fostering healthy and supportive learning environments for all students and staff.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation partners with schools, youth-serving organizations, businesses, and communities to advance health equity and create environments where every child can achieve lifelong health.
