MISSION, TEXAS (DEC. 16, 2025) – Veterans Memorial High School Revolution Theatre presented a sensory-friendly performance of The Addams Family musical for elementary Special Education self-contained classrooms on Friday, December 12, at the VMHS Auditorium.
The performance was thoughtfully designed to support a wide range of sensory needs and help every student feel comfortable and included. Accommodations included reduced lighting and sound levels, as well as a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where attendees could enjoy the show at their own pace.
Executive Director for Special Education, Section 504 & MTSS Francisca Cruz said the performance reflects the district’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences for every learner.
“We are so happy that a space like this has been created for our students,” Cruz said. “By providing the right supports and accommodations, we’re sending a clear message: you belong here—and you deserve to enjoy the magic of theatre like everyone else.”
VMHS Revolution Theatre Director Carlos Garcia praised the student performers and production team for their dedication and heart. “Our students worked incredibly hard, and they led with compassion,” Garcia said. “We hope sensory-friendly performances become something we do more often—and that it becomes the norm. We would love to see more theatre programs create inclusive performances so more students can experience live theatre in a way that works for them.”
Mission CISD congratulates the VMHS students, staff, and campus leaders whose preparation and care made this inclusive performance a success.
As the holiday season reminds us of the power of comfort, joy, and community, Mission CISD is proud to celebrate the students and educators who made this sensory-friendly theatre experience possible. The district looks forward to building on this effort with more inclusive opportunities that ensure every student feels welcomed, valued, and able to enjoy the arts—on stage and beyond.
