Double Gold, One Mission: Special Olympics Athletes Shine on the Soccer Field

MISSION, TEXAS (March 30, 2026) – Mission CISD Special Olympics athletes scored big on Saturday, March 28, as two district teams competed in the Area 1 Special Olympics Soccer Tournament — and both brought home gold medals.

Teams representing Mission High School and Veterans Memorial High School each went undefeated in their respective brackets, showcasing determination, teamwork, and pride throughout the tournament.

Undefeated Performances Lead to Gold

The Mission High School team, Team Eagles, dominated their bracket under the leadership of coaches Artie Esquivel and Ramiro Segovia. Their strong play and unity on the field carried them to an undefeated record and a first-place finish.

Veterans Memorial High School’s Team Patriots, coached by Leo Esquivel, also delivered an impressive showing. The team competed with confidence and consistency, finishing undefeated and earning gold in their bracket.
