Mission CISD student earns one of Texas’ highest student honors in media arts

MISSION, TEXAS (April 9, 2026) – Mission Consolidated Independent School District proudly announces that Emilia Tovar-Catete, an 11th grade student at Mission Collegiate High School, has been selected as a 2026 Texas Young Master in Media Arts, one of the highest honors awarded to young artists in the state.

 

The Texas Young Masters Program is presented by the Texas Commission on the Arts and Texas Cultural Trust. The program recognizes exceptional Texas students who demonstrate outstanding artistic achievement, dedication, and potential in their chosen discipline.

 

Emilia is the only student from the Rio Grande Valley selected for the 2026 cohort, highlighting both her individual excellence and the growing strength of arts education in South Texas.

 

As a Media Arts recipient, Emilia has distinguished herself through her creativity, technical skill, and unique storytelling voice. Her work reflects both innovation and a deep commitment to her craft, setting her apart among a competitive pool of applicants from across the state.

Students selected as Texas Young Masters receive a financial award and statewide recognition, celebrating their artistic excellence and supporting their continued growth.

 

Emilia’s recognition underscores the importance of arts education and its impact on student success, creativity, and future opportunities.

The Texas Young Masters Program identifies and honors the most talented young artists in Texas across disciplines such as music, dance, theater, visual arts, and media arts. Administered by the Texas Cultural Trust in partnership with the Texas Commission on the Arts, the program encourages artistic excellence and elevates the next generation of creative leaders. The Rio Grande Valley has a Commissioner appointed to the Texas Commission on the Arts by Governor Greg Abbott; Dr. Diane Milliken Garza.
