MISSION, Texas (July 21, 2026) — Mission Consolidated Independent School District has begun preparations for the 2026-2027 school year by bringing district and campus administrators together for its annual Leadership Academy.
The two-day academy, titled “Mission Possible 2.0: Elevating Excellence,” is being held July 21-22 at Rafael A. Cantu Junior High School. The event provides district leaders with professional learning, leadership training and information about Mission CISD’s priorities for the coming year.
“It’s going to be an amazing 2026-2027 school year,” Mission CISD Superintendent Dr. Cris King said. “You can feel the energy as we kick off Mission Possible 2.0. It’s about elevating excellence and kicking off the school year with professional learning.”
District and campus administrators are participating in two full days of sessions designed to strengthen leadership skills, improve district systems and establish shared goals before students and staff return.
Establishing a roadmap for Mission CISD
The first day of the academy focuses on Mission CISD’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan and the district’s Texas Strategic Leadership work with the Texas Education Agency and Region One Education Service Center.
The strategic plan outlines the district’s mission, vision, priorities and major initiatives. It will guide district and campus leaders as they make decisions and work toward shared goals during the next several years.
“The strategic plan is the roadmap of what is going to take Mission from good to great,” King said. “As leaders of this mission, we need to know where we are, where we are headed and the steps we need to take.”
Sessions led by Region One representatives address strategic leadership and the systems needed to support the district’s goals. The first day also includes the superintendent’s address and updates from Human Resources, the Mission CISD Education Foundation and Employee Benefits.
Building stronger instructional leaders
The second day centers on learning readiness, change management, classroom observation, feedback and coaching.
Training led by engage2learn gives administrators tools to observe classroom instruction, provide clear feedback and hold productive coaching conversations with teachers. Leaders will also review systems designed to support professional growth across the district.
“One of the key areas we are working on is observation and feedback and building instructional leadership capacity in all of us,” King said. “As leaders, we are coaches. We coach our teachers on how to be great teachers in the classroom.”
King said the work is directly connected to student achievement.
“When teachers grow, students grow,” he said. “It is all about high-quality teaching and learning every single day, in every classroom, for every child.”
The second day also includes department updates from Safety and Security and Information Systems.
Preparing leaders for the year ahead
The Leadership Academy allows administrators from across Mission CISD to begin the school year with a clear understanding of district expectations, goals and systems.
The district is continuing the Mission Possible theme from the previous year while placing a renewed focus on elevating excellence across campuses and departments.
The academy reflects Mission CISD’s commitment to collaboration, responsibility, innovation and continuous improvement as leaders prepare to welcome employees and students for the new school year.
