The Art of Excellence: Mission CISD Earns TAEA District of Distinction

MISSION, TEXAS (October 1, 2026) - Mission Consolidated Independent School District has been named a Texas Art Education Association District of Distinction for the 2025–2026 academic year, recognizing the district’s commitment to providing students with high-quality visual arts education.

More than 1,200 school districts were eligible to apply for the statewide honor. Mission CISD is among only 109 districts selected for the recognition.

Meeting a Rigorous Statewide Standard

To earn the District of Distinction designation, Mission CISD’s visual arts program met or exceeded the requirements of a rigorous 14-point rubric.

The evaluation examined several areas of the district’s visual arts program, including participation in TAEA, professional membership, student exhibitions, art contests and community engagement. It also reviewed opportunities involving field experiences, community service and collaboration with other academic subjects.

Mission CISD successfully submitted all required materials and demonstrated strong participation in visual arts learning experiences across all grade levels.

Leadership in Visual Arts Education

The Visual Art Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA, presents the award to districts that demonstrate outstanding leadership in promoting visual arts education within their schools and communities.
