MHS students named to All-Region Jazz Band; one qualifies for state audition

Seven Mission High School (MHS) students recently chose to audition for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region 15 All-Region Jazz Band. Four of those seven made the cut with one that will serve as an alternate.

One of the students, Adan Coronado, also qualified to audition for the TMEA All-State Jazz Band next week. This audition process for the saxophone player will involve recording his performance to be submitted for state-level judging. This is the first time MHS has sent a student to the area round of auditions for the state ensemble.

The other students who made the All-Region Jazz Band are: Jose Guerra III, alto saxophone; Pedro Silva, tenor saxophone; Angel Gomez, bass guitar. Armando Sanchez, trumpet, will serve as an alternate.

Director of bands, Dieg Sandoval, said it takes a team effort from all the directors, parents and students for this type of success. “It brings me great pride to have an association with these outstanding students,” Sandoval said. “I have high expectations of all our students and I know they will rise to the occasion. I know they will definitely exceed the standards that are set before them.”

The two other MHS students who took on the challenge to audition for the All-Region Jazz Band are: Alyin Reta, tenor trombone; Joe Saenz, tenor trombone.
