MHS band places 3rd in recent competition

The march toward the Region 15 Marching contest commonly known as the Pigskin Jubilee continues this weekend. This past weekend, October 5, the Mission High School (MHS) Eagle Band competed at the Music on the Reservation contest at Donna ISD and at the La Joy Coyote Marching Festival held at La Joya ISD.

The Eagle band earned unanimous first division “superior” ratings from the panel of three judges at the Coyote Festival and placed third in class 4A. The band placed seventh overall out of 19 competing bands.

“We are continuing to push our students to become consistent performers,” said Dieg Sandoval, band director. “Yes, they had some success at the most recent contests, but the season is not over yet and there is still much to be improved upon.”

Two more pre-Pigskin contests are on the schedule for October 12. The main Pigskin Jubilee will be held at the La Joya ISD Stadium on October 19. MHS band may still have some tickets available for Pigskin. They are $7. Contact the MHS band at 323-5739 for ticket availability. Once the high school bands have sold their allotment of tickets, tickets may still be available at the gate during the event.
