Migrant students attend college readiness conference designed just for them

                Migrant students from Mission High School and Veterans Memorial High School had the opportunity to participate in a special college readiness conference designed specifically for them. The Migrant Youth Leadership Conference drew students from across the Rio Grande Valley. The theme of the program was “From Harvest to Harvard”. The main speaker for the event was the director for the office of migrant education in Washington, DC, Dr. Lisa Ramirez.

                Breakout sessions at the conference were designed to provide the students with information and motivation as they plan for their futures. The goal is to increase the number of migrant students who overcome their challenges, in order to complete their public school educations and then go to college.

                The students who attended from Mission High School were: Elizabeth Aguilar Rodriguez, Thalia Pruneda, Isaac Barrera, Erik Guerrero, Ruben Medina-Garay, Ashlyn Martinez, Juan Muniz, Jorge Ramos-Reyna, Kassandra Tijerina, Ashley Venegas.

                The students who attended from Veterans Memorial High School were: Samantha Cuellar, Marivel Garcia, Roxanne Garcia, Alondra Garcia, Isaac Barrientos, Alexis Jordan Salazar, Sergio Castorena, Carlos Lopez, Arturo Molina.
