Veterans Memorial FFA students advance to area leadership competitions

                The Veterans Memorial High School FFA Chapter has several teams of students who either won their respective competitions or placed high enough at the recently held Rio Grande Valley (RGV) District Career and Leadership Development Event that they now advance to the area competition. The area competitions will be held November 25 at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

                The Farm Radio Broadcasting team of Zenaida Alaniz, Samantha Diaz and Rene Olivarez placed first at the district contest.

                The Greenhand FFA Quiz Team placed first. Team members are Samantha Diaz, Rene Olivarez, and Sergio Rodriguez. Olivarez was also the high point individual for this contest at district.

                Also placing first at the district level competition was Galilea Zorola, Job Interview Candidate; and Edward Moreno, junior FFA Spanish Creed Speaker.

                The Senior FFA Quiz Team placed second and is advancing. Team members are: Roy Guerrero, Samantha Diaz, David Bazan, Priscilla Cerroblanco. Diaz was also the high point individual for this contest at district.

                The Public Relations Team consisting of Kendra Garcia, Nate Garza, and Angel Sanchez, placed second and advance to the area level of competitions.

                Also placing second and advancing to area level competition is Zenaida Alaniz, Senior FFA Creed Speaker.

                Jose Castaneda placed second at the district contest in Senior FFA Spanish Creed Speaker category. He now advances straight to the state competition that will be held in Fort Worth, Texas in the summer of 2014.

                Greenhand FFA Creed Speaker, Marcus Diaz placed seventh.
