The three member Radio Broadcasting team from the Veterans Memorial FFA Chapter recently traveled to Huntsville, Texas to compete in the Texas FFA Leadership Career Development Events.  The team qualified for state competition by finishing first in the Rio Grande Valley district and second at the Area 10 competitions.

The Veterans Memorial FFA Radio Broadcasting team consisting of (pictured left to right), Samantha Diaz, Rene Olivarez, and Zenaida Alaniz, placed seventh at the state contest.

Over 5,800 total entries began the statewide tournament in 13 different events which reflect classroom instruction in basic leadership skills that are a part of the agriculture, food, and natural resources curriculum. In the FFA Radio Broadcasting event, there were 675 teams that competed across the state.

The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of 100,000 active FFA members. On average there are approximately 18 schools per FFA district. FFA programs teach skills in leadership, career development, and personal growth. FFA gives students the opportunity to practically apply classroom knowledge to real-world experiences through local, state, and national competitions.
