MHS student wins RGV welding contest

                Mission High School senior, Ruben Medina-Garay received first place at the recent Rio Grande Valley (RGV) District Welding Competition held at the South Texas College (STC) Technology Campus. He competed against 160 students from RGV high school welding programs.

                In addition to the honor of earning first place, Medina-Garay was also presented with $350 worth of protective welding equipment from Matheson Gas.

                Medina-Garay is participating in the dual enrollment School to Career Academy & Dual Enrollment (SCADE) welding program offered at Mission High School and Veterans Memorial High School, in conjunction with STC. Through this intensive program, students can graduate with professional welding certifications that qualify them for well-paying welding jobs immediately upon high school graduation.

 Advisors for the MHS Agriculture Science program that includes welding are: Benito Garza and Rolando Gonzalez.
