Have you thanked a school board member lately?

January is School Board Recognition Month and Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) is joining other districts across the state to thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to our public schools.

School board members serve countless hours working without pay to make public education the best it can be for every child. They develop policies and make tough decisions on complex educational and social issues that affect the entire community and the lives of individual students. In Mission CISD, they bear the responsibility and oversight for an annual budget that exceeds $168 million; over 15,000 students in grades Pre-K through 12; more than 2,300 employees; and 24 campuses.

The men and women serving Mission CISD are: Oscar Martinez, President; Raymond Longoria, Vice President; Patty Bazaldua, Secretary; James E. Olivarez, Member; Patricia O’Caña-Olivarez, Member; Dr. Sonia M. Treviño, Member; J.C. Avila, Member.
