Mission CISD crowns the district’s top spellers

                After starting with a field of 32 competitors, it took about an hour to whittle that number down to one person, who is this year’s top speller in Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District). Alma Aurora Zamora, an eighth grader from K. White Jr. High School (pictured right) won this year’s annual district spelling bee. Zamora will now advance to the 26th Annual Rio Grande Valley Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 1, at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen.

                Nelissa Garcia, a seventh grader from Mission Jr. High School (pictured center), came in second place. The third place finisher in this year’s district spelling bee was Lisa Garza, a fifth grade student from O’Grady Elementary School.
