Campus teachers of the year announced

                Each Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) campus has made their selections for Teacher of the Year at their school. These top educators are now being entered into the Mission CISD Teacher of the year program. It is from this program that one elementary and one secondary teacher will be selected to represent Mission CISD in the Regional Teacher of the Year contest.

                Mission CISD has had the Regional Secondary Teacher of the Year two years in a row. Last year, Rosbel Pena from Alton Memorial Jr. High School was selected as the District Secondary Teacher of the Year and the Region One Secondary Teacher of the Year. Prior to that, Yvette Nevarez, also from Alton Memorial Jr. High School was selected for both the District and Region One honors. The District Elementary Teacher of the Year last year was Victor Alonzo from Marcell Elementary School.

                The 15 elementary Campus Teachers of the Year for this year are: Asuzena Chavero, Alton Elementary School; Maria “Lupita” Hernandez, Bryan Elementary School; Orlando Olivarez, Cantu Elementary School; Fred Estimbo, Castro Elementary School; Marissa Chavez de Northcutt, Cavazos Elementary School; Priscilla Aparicio, Escobar/Rios Elementary School; Michael Larralde, Leal Elementary School; Thelma Brewer, Marcell Elementary School; Irma Gomez, Midkiff Elementary School; Anabel Tenorio, Mims Elementary School; Rosalva Villarreal, O’Grady Elementary School; Maira M. Gonzalez, Pearson Elementary School; Julissa Moreno, Salinas Elementary School; Yesenia Tan, Waitz Elementary School; Karla Garza, Newcomers Academy.

                The nine secondary Campus Teachers of the Year are: Robert Granados, Alton Memorial Jr. High School; Adrian Chapa, K. White Jr. High School; Jesus Razo, Mission Jr. High School; Laura Alaniz, R. Cantu Jr. High School; Barbara Nogueras, Mission Collegiate High School; Evangelina Blanco, Mission High School; Liz Acosta, Mission Options Academy; Guillermo Vela, Roosevelt Alternative School; Roy Reyna, Veterans Memorial High School.

                Each of these teachers is now being tasked with filling out a questionnaire used in the Texas Teacher of the Year program. The questionnaire will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected from the community. These judges will make the final selection of the two teachers to represent Mission CISD in the regional competition. The judges’ decision will be announced at a special Teacher of the Year luncheon to be held on National Teacher Day, May 6. Each campus Teacher of the Year will also be honored by the district administration and Board of Trustees during this special luncheon.
